I did. (I'm might be one of the ones that you'd ran across in researching) I probably should have gone w/ a Hilsen over the Rambouillet, given that I'm not svelte, but, when I was looking at the frames at MSL, that green just was screaming my name. Bought it as a frame, built it up myself

Great news, David! I wouldn't love my Riv Road so much if I hadn't converted it to 650b; 700x27 is too limiting for me. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send a

I got around to attempting wheel/brake swaps this evening, to try and fit 650b wheels on my Redwood. I used an old Alesa-rimmed wheelset that I rebuilt (28mm wide rims or so) and Tektro R365 brakes with Koolstop Thinline brake pads. And the conclusion. It works! No brake slot filing require

There were also some dropped/offset brake pads shoes available recently that fit standard Kool-Stop pads. They could help with your reach issues. -J On Friday, May 29, 2015 at 10:43:13 AM UTC-7, David Banzer wrote: > > I think the issue with the Road Standard is that 38mm is the largest that >

I think the issue with the Road Standard is that 38mm is the largest that will fit, which is fine. I'd like to fit 42mm plus fenders which I'm sure the Redwood can do, just the brake issue. FWIW, I have another 650b single speed conversion with 750 centerpulls that stops fine. Another considera

An older Riv (or similar brand) built around short reach sidepulls would be a better choice, I think. Think Heron Road or Riv Road Standard. Rambouillets and the like are just such fine machines with 700c wheels I've never considered such a conversion. (My orange Ram is my last 700c bike and

I'm pretty sure you need to add 19mm, not 38mm, e.g., the radius, not the entire circumference. This thread is good information overall though because I want to convert my Redwood also, and I have recessed R559s lying around. Guess I will have to reconsider my choice of brakes :( Like Tim I was a

Yes, brake reach may be a problem. Measure the reach now, add 38 mm (622 - 584). The Tektro 800a has long reach, but it's not a great brake. You may not be satisfied with their capability. Also, be warned that the 800a is backwards. The cable exits on the left shoulder of the caliper, versus t

Shoot. I was hoping the Tektro's would do it. I do have 750s - might order the Tektro 800a's, do a bolt swap, and add some quick releases from an older brakeset. I'll double check of course as I have the parts on hand. David Chicago On Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 1:28:16 PM UTC-5, Kieran J wrote:

I converted my 68cm Ram to 650bx42 briefly. It was a fun experiment but in the end, I prefer it as 700x33.3. The frame (and likely the Redwood) will easily take those tires and 52mm fenders - or 584 knobbies of some kind. Although the tire and fender clearances for conversion were nearly ideal
