I've had an Atlantis since '03 but have never ridden the Sam. With a
light wheelset the Atlantis is surprisingly responsive & quick for a
touring bike. I prefer my 40 mm tires on Mavic A719 rims for comfort
but I do work harder on that set-up.

If you are coming off a race-y bike to a Sam or Atlantis, either will feel
sluggish. IMO there's not a ton of difference between the two in terms of
quickness or the perception of quickness.

Sort of a side track from the OP but regarding wheel size trends... My wife
has a Kona brand commuter type bike. She's 5'3". The frame's a 50cm or so
(I forget exactly and it's not available to measure at the moment). It has
700c wheels. The top of the back wheel is level with the bottom of the

My guess is that "build only inventory" will refer to parts that are
only available to order if you are purchasing a frame and having Riv
put the bike together with parts from their inventory. If you were
just to call and order the bar, it would be unavailable.

Am I the only one who likes the look (and feel) of long barcons? They are
so elegant and on my 53-55cm frames don't get in the way. I like the look
of these modified levers but prefer the long length.

The frames made in Taiwan(like mine) increased to $1,800, while the

Albatross, Mustache, or Noodle. So, if you've got a bike with, say, an
Albatross bar and are considering replacing it with the "non-moosey"
NewBar(or whatever it'll end up being called), the stem you've got on
