I am running IRC Mythos XC Slick 42mm tires on my Sam, and am looking
for a dual purpose tire that leans a little more towards paved road
performance (let's say 75% road use, 25% dirt, but with some technical

I agree with your assessment of the Tektro's being kinda wimpy, esp in
the rear. I was going to experiment with a different pad on my orange
56cm Sam. Otherwise, I have a set of Paul's I might put on it
instead.

Re. Tektro 720s: I have them on my Sam, and I think they are great.
Easy to set up, good modulation, good stopping power; they are awesome
at the price. If all you did was technical singletrack downhill, you
might want something with more mechanical advantage for less hand
strain after hours of bra
I am using the Velo Orange seatpost on my Sam H. I have a similar long
torso build but with longish femurs so I like to get as far back as
possible. I have my Champion Special almost all the way back and it
fits perfect!!

bike. I like roady bikes, I ride a Quickbeam, which suits me pretty
well, but fantasize about a dedicated Camper and a Randonneur, and I

Do any of you have any experience or comments about the saris Thelma
bicycle car rack? Especially interested in comparaing it against a
Thule model that places wheels into trays and secures with ratcheting

I've installed the SRAM levers on my Quickbeam and they are really
nice. They are just a bit wider (comfortably so IMHO) than Ultegra 9-
sp brifters. I really like the angled levers -- they make 2-fingered
braking more comfortable for me. The one thing I don't really like is

Has anyone run 44s on their Sam? I am running 42mm IRC Mythos XC
Slicks (which are knobbies with a semi-slick center). They measure
42mm actual on Velocity Synergies, and I'd say there is good mud
clearance, but with 44s I am not so sure (though I am pretty sure 44s
would fit).

My legs are generally able to give me a good overall indication of the amount
of climbing done on a given ride. In fact, there are times when they detect the
minutest changes in upgrade well before the Garmin 705 kicks in... :)
