Looked like a lot of fun. I'm game for the next one...and I have Mill

I'm pretty sure that I'm up for it, as long as it doesn't bug anyone
that I'd be the slowest one up the hill. I'll get to the top
eventually. The only weekend that doesn't work for me is August 14 -
16.

I got about 3 months on the Schwalbe Marathons (650b) and I like them
a lot. I converted from CDlv's and to be honest I really can tell
much difference. My biggest gripe with the CDLVs was that they were a
major pain to mount and some of them appeared to have a built-in
wobble. The Marathons mou

I've been trying to hold out for a Marathon Supreme in 650b.
Given the market for $50+ (I have trouble paying auto tire prices for
bicycle tires, personally) 650b tires, I think Schwalbe missed the boat
manufacturing the ho-hum Middy that competes in price with the 105/Ultegra
standard Col de la V
Other than being a larger size, the frame is essentially identical to
my own 1995 Road Std, right down to the Sherwood Forest green single-
color paint. Mine lacks the "Hadcrafted - Waterford Wisconsin" decal
but the Rivendell decal is trhe same as on mine. Looks original and
correct to me.

Actually just noticed Schwalbe is now selling a basic Marathin 650b.
No Supreme, Big Apple, Fat frank or Ultremo yet though.

Schwalbe are justifiably popular with distance tourers, mountain
bikers, and among specialty bike - folders, recumbents, adult trikes -
Take a look at the Rivendell website. In the "Read About It" section
for the Hilsen, the maximum tire size is stated as 40mm without
fenders, 38mm with.
Good luck.

Jim: This is the early Rivendell logo on my 1995 Road. This bike, btw has the
standard Waterford Head tube, that is, it lacks the headtube extension visible
on the green eBay bike. You can see the double ended spear looking thingamajig
horizontally backing the name.

Hi James - Yeah, now you got me looking at my old Riv Readers. I see
on page 31 of the #3 Reader ("Rivendell Frames") that Grant stated

Well, I was compelled to dig out the old RR's, and I found the
following in Reader #3, describing the forthcoming Rivendell frames,
back in 1995:

About the Reynolds 531 tubing, I recall early Rivendell readers talking
about the frames being 753 with forks that used 531. (I'm not saying
that all came this way, but I do remember it.)
Furthermore, the Heron Touring I used to have was made at Waterford in
1998, and its frame and fork were b
The decal on the downtube of the bicycle on eBay is the same as that
on my Rivendell, which was purchased new by me in 1996 (I'd assume it
was also used in 1995). The only thing that looks unusual to me is
the Reynolds 531 decal on the forks, I'm relatively sure that Reynolds

The bike is lovely, but I'm not sure it's a 95. We'd need the serial # to know.
The Riv decal is later (a repaint? Not mentioned in the ad) than the original.
I've always liked that Sherwood Green.

Just my opinion but the Hetre is the center of its own universe. The
only tire that could even dream of revolving in its golden orbit would
be a 40mm Pasela. Failing that, we have the CdlV which is alternately
praised in dulcet tones or vilified back to the primeval muck it came
from. I believe

Anyone know what tire Grant is running on his Hilsen in the staff bike

I guess I'm asking because I'm curious if it's possible to run these:

hello,
july 31st (as well as august dates) would work well.
it looks like i can probably carpool to the start with my friend.
caltrain would have worked well as far as public transport goes ...
perhaps the start could be near one of those stops in case other car-
less riders want to join.

Not much faster than by bike ;-)

Thanks all, so far I'm having a good time. I make it to the coast
tonight- can't wait.
That is indeed a Nitto Big Front Rack- a great piece of kit highly
reccomended.

But doesn't a lot depend on planning and intended use? Presumably
someone who shells out the dough for a Bombadil is going to put a lot
of thought into fit and function. If the Bullmoose work well for your
intended use then the lack of adjustability is not a problem.

As stated, Bullmoose bars disappeared for a good reason. No
adjustability in reach or angles. My '83 Stumpjumper had one, but
would-be thief tried damaged it in college. It was the best thing that
ever happened, as I got a Specialized Slingshot stem and bar instead.
