for two reasons. One, it catches multiplication overflowing size_t.
Two, it returns T * rather than void *, which lets the compiler catch
more type errors.
This commit only touches allocations with siz
g_malloc0 already clears the memory, so no need for additional
memsets here. And while we're at it, let's also remove the
superfluous typecasts for the return values of g_malloc0.
