You can force a reinstall of glibc and gcc with "rpm -Uvh --force
". That's about as clean as it gets without a reinstall. But

Interestingly, I just discovered that the Moz 1.2b that I installed uses
pdpr as the default print command. That certainly would throw a wrench in
the works. Changing that to lp or lpr solves the problem.

the Linux boot loader (lilo or grub) must be installed in the
partition containing /boot (and you need to mark tht partition active).
Installing the boot loader in the MBR is incompatible with
suspend-to-disk.
