Use something like denyhosts to ban repeat offenders ip addresses,
there are other programs like denyhosts but I can't remember the names
as it is morning and I am going to work now.

always talk to peer with plaintext, even peer supports
Most hosting providers block outbound traffic to port 25 by default. A
simple telnet to outside port 25 can verify it quickly.
