There is a Debian package called rc but I don't have it installed.
I have tried a different shell (zsh) and an older version of postfix,
without effect. LANG is the same on both machines.

Yes, it was the version in /usr/lib/postfix. I tried the above, which
produced a lot of lines of output, but I have no real idea what they
mean.

ror does not appear. I compared the files in the two and couldn't see
any difference. I also purged postfix completely on this machine and
then reinstalled it; still got the error.
