I have one 80 GB HDD which has Windows XPSP2 (NTFS based) & Ubuntu 6.06
upgraded to Ubuntu 6.10 (ext2). It had GNU GRUB 0.97 running underneath

I've a friends laptop on which I installed ubuntu. He is able
to use
the web/net through the network. Hence I configured pppoe by using
pppoeconf. Now although he's able to surf the connection breaks down
once in a while. Although I do have some things/some hints which I'm

Now while installing Ubuntu the Modem/Router was not kept on, so do any

e only downside I could see is :-
1. As only few applications are bundled for the rest it goes to
Ubuntu's archives to access applications. This is good for only people
with persistent Net Connectivity. Maybe this can be reduced in the
