I am trying to change my "X" background color.
[ Background when the splash screen shows up, not the desktop color].
I tried putting "xsetroot -solid black" as last line in my xinitrc.
Somehow does not seem to work. I still see that Bluecurve blue color.
I do not have a .xinitrc in ~.

I want to get rid of the the desktop icons in gnome.
I found out that through gconf-editor you can make home directory as your
desktop.
But in that case all the directories etc would show up on my desktop.
Presently I just rm * the contents of .gnome-desktop.
