If I am on a chat site or on Skype using my microphone, how can I play
and MP3 file from my hard drive? I have heard people do this, for

You need a ripping program to copy the file to your hard drive. It will
appear as a WAV file on your hard drive, but you can specify another format

I tried SoundTap and it was a disaster. It is not the same company as
Screamer. SoundTap is an NCH product, the makers of Express Burn. I would
suggest you uninstall SoundTap. It has its own uninstall program on the
hard drive in the NCH\SoundTap folder. Good luck.

If you want to record records, then noise reduction is a big issue. My
experience with Goldwave and Audacity is that Audacity is far superior
between the two in noise reduction. However, Audacity is a much more
complex program and is somewaht more difficult to learn and use.

With most laptops having one jack, you may plug either a microphone or a
headset into it and the computer will ask you which one you are using.
It then adjusts to your choice. If you want to use both a microphone
and a headset at the same time, then you are best off using a USB mic.
