Is there a command I can put in a mailbox hook to change my from and
reply-to address on a mailbox by mailbox basis?
I don't see mention of anything suitable in the reference sect
Say I wanted to delete some old mail in a large mailbox, so I hit 'T',
and then ~r -1/1/99. This tags all of the messages before January
1st, like I wanted...except if it is a thread dating from before Jan
1, but with replies from after this date. Is there a way to make it
tag these messages as

You need to set the configuration variables so, and then you can use
gnugp instead of pgp:
set pgp_v2=/usr/bin/pgp # pgp 2.* binary
set pgp_v2_pubring=~/.pg

tarball (ssmtp-2.31.tar.gz from sunsite /pub/linux/system/mail/mta/)
contains bugger all, and I'm having problems.

It should be mostly automatic.
When you get to the 'send menu', type a 'p' and it will let you sign
and/or encrypt your mail.

set mbox_type=Maildir
in the .muttrc, what else do I need? I.e. do I need to specify where
the Maildir directory is with a set of some sort and if I use a set
folder will mutt create maildirs in that directory?

I sent this once and didn't get a single reply. I'm wondering if it went
through.
I installed slang, compiled mutt and installed it underneath my home
directory. the dotlock program, mutt and the Muttrc are in place with
prefix=/usr/home/hypnotik ..
earth% ls -l /var/mail/hypnotik

Well, this might be a simple question, but how do I use
