I have used very basic npppd setup for some years and it works for me

It seems now i need to set up more complicated configuration. Say that
firewall has three network interfaces
re0 - public internet
re1 - internal network one 192.168.2.0
I'm having some problems using a Seagate external USB 3.0 hard drive with
my workstation.
The first time I tested, I was running the Nov. 22nd amd64 snapshot.
Plugging the drive into a USB 3.0 port would instantly freeze the system.
The drive worked just fine when plugged into a USB 2 port.
