I can't find a command that splits the screen into two equal windows. The
commands I know of divide the screen into 9 sections and that won't work for
this procedure.
The aim is to have as big a target as possible to avoid mistakes.

Hello Geoff,
ABBYY FineReader detects orientation. It also gets pages in the right order
when you scan a double-page at a time which is what I do when scanning books.
VueScan doesn't detect orientation but it will do OCR, though not very well.

hopeful that as more people move to the Mac, a more robust, less fiddly
solution for scanning will become available, but in the meantime, I use what

Could it be a permissions problem? If Safari no longer has permission to
update its history list, that could be an issue. This is admittedly a shot in
the dark, and not a very likely one at that. Have you considered simply
erasing the whole Safari folder structure and starting fresh?
