Actually, I solved it; thanks! I had googled it but the solutions looked
awfully complicated me. So first I tried stopping the process, turning off
iTunes match, and quitting iTunes, then re-opening iTunes and turning on iTunes
match. This time it still stalled in step 2, about nine songs
I am afraid that this does happen from time to time. Even when you have all the
songs imported I sometimes get iTunes Match freezing an d get a message
eventually that iTunes is unable to contact the store.
I do not know why this happens but suspect a capacity problem on the Apple
end
I subscribed to iTunes match a few hours ago. It has been going through the
steps fine but now for some time has been stalled in checking songs at 9924 of
10041. Is there something I should do to get this process going again?

I doubt very much that track numbers will ever factor into iTunes Match
matching. As long as the details of the track are reasonable, i.e. including
album and name, you should be all right. The bulk of the work of identifying a
song is actually down to the sound data itself, and not the file

iTunes? Totally restarted your Mac? Since you have likely followed its
suggestion of signing out of iTunes Match then back in, try signing out,

I’m pretty sure that iTunes Match updates itself upon iTunes starting. So, if
you’ve quit and restarted iTunes since you imported those Christmas CDs, then
they’re likely already matched.

I just got two new Christmas CD’s and realized that this is the first music
I’ll be importing since I signed up for iTunes Match. Will the new music I add
in this way go directly to iTunes Match? Or, is there something I need to do
