in Scrivene
In addition to Richard's suggestion, another option would be to open your LyX
document in a text editor and globally replace the Unicode character for the
long dash with two ordinary dashes.

It seems to be a permissions problem.
In my case the lyx folder under Library/texmf/tex/latex was owned by
root and the installer could not copy the "Lyx's additional classes
and styles". I guess the reason is that he folder originally had been
created by a LyX 1.51 i

You are talking about the little red error boxes? Click on the boxes to get a
popup telling you more about the error. Sometimes it is because you haven't
loaded the right packages, sometimes you might have left off a brace in a
preamble command.

I compiled 1.0.2pre3 again with the new versions of tetex and I get the
same error. I guess I will just have to live with this "feature". I also
used my the first four Gnomeish images (cut, copy, open, & emph) that I
converted for my personal version of LyX so that it matches the rest of
my gtk+ a
The upgrade helped. I only get an error the first time I output to dvi
or the printer. If I ignore the error and try again it works. I am going
recompile LyX now that I have upgrade the tetex package and see if that
helps.

I ran options-reconfigure and still got an error the first time I tried
to view dvi. Then I highlighted and deleted the error and viewed dvi
again and no error was reported. Off I go to upgrade the TeTex package.
