This is a problem with either the DVI viewer or your LaTeX implementation; it is
external to LyX. Judging by the error message, it appears that (a) you are on
some flavor of Windows (happens to even the best of us at times) and (b) you are
using TrueTeX rather than the more common (on Windows) MiK

When I try to view a document with the dvi viewer as suggested at the beginning
of the tutorial I get the message:

I have always had problems to access to examples and also to the templates
since I have switched to OSX. I have observed that LyX2 look for the
templates in the folder ~/library/Application support/Lyx2.0
So, I have copied the examples and the templates folders from the
application bundle to this

I installed LyX a couple months ago, and have experimented with it
superficially without reading any of the documentation. I've just upgraded to
2.0 and want to get started actually using it, initially just for simple
documents, which i imagine will be mostly composed using other applications -

Hi Marshall,
I went through a similar dilemma when I started working with LyX. You
appear to have a much better handle on your needs than I need. That will
probably make your transition a great deal less painful than mine was.

As a new LyX user, I have no idea how to prepare presentation using LyX.
How can I learn LyX for presentation, is there any documentation,

Yes, but Postscript files compress better so that the final compressed
file is often smaller with Postscript (especially if you use bzip2).
This doesn't help viewing, though.
