Here on Windows, I cannot see any effect. The saved files are still uncompressed. Also the backup
files are uncompressed.
I only get a compressed file when I use the option D

Long time ago it turned out that many users don't know what ERT is. As the button for it is named
"TeX" and the term "TeX-code" was already somewhere in the docs
