Does anybody know of a public newserver in Israel that carries the linux kernel
mailing list? I want to be able to access it , but I can't actually subscribe and
download 200+ messages a day over a dail-up connection.
If there aren't any, can somebody arrange to set one up somewhere?
when those things blow up it is usually just the power supply that gets
destroyed. I don't know what happened in your case (excuse the pun) so don't
rely on what I just said.

I think you can nfs mount the /dev dirctory of the machine with the modem
onto your local machine, and then you should be able to open the device as
if it where a local device (i.e. /nfs/ttySx).
I'm not 100% sure, so somebody correct me if I am wrong

You can set up your system so that when a particular student logs onto the
system, first it runs fetchmail to get the mail from the remote system and
depoits it into the local system's user mailbox, and the starts pine. You can
also write a script which would give the student the choise if he want

A buffer is memmory that is allocated to hold recived packets before the
packets can be written out onto the exiting port. Dynamic allocation means
that it is given out on a needed basis .If it is dynamic per port , then the
switch allocates the available memmory to

You should also decide what quality cable you want, catagory 3 for 10mb/sec
or cat 5 for 100mb/sec . The cables should terminate to a "patch panel" (you
can actually skip this part if you really want-but you said you want a
"proper intsallation") from which you run cables into you hub or switch.

I am not sure that Bezeq allows you to connect a network to the DSL
connection, only a single computer. So, in order to do what you want, you
have to use address translation. you can do this with a Linux box if you
know how to set it up. If you do go out and buy a DSL router, make sure it
works wi

Current winmodems fall into two classes; DSP modems and HSP (Host signal
processing modems) modems. The DSP modems have a on board Digital Signal
Processor which does most of the work, like the IBM modem you described. The
HSP modems leave it up to the CPU to do the decoding. The PC Tel modem i
