'\override MultiMeasureRest #'staff-position = #0' doesn't work, which is
strange because '\override Rest #'staff-position = #0' works just fine.
I use version 2.10.23 on winXP.

To force the stem to point upwards on both notes, you can insert
\stemUp (and reset to the default later using \stemNeutral
