Yes as David so eloquently put it, I made a mistake in my example. Sorry
for the confusion.
Instead of
\char ##x009
It should have been
\char ##x0e9
However it can also be
\char ##x00e9
Which is the actual value in that link I gave you.

Confirmed. I run Lilypond under Vista and I get any diacritical's I
need when I save my file in UTF-8 format. Before I figured that out I
was using a VERY old text editor that didn't know anything about
Unicode. I could show those characters in that ed
d conversions that a different OS or editor will

In many Postings the Umlaut-Problem is treated to solve with an UTF8-Editor.
But in OOoLilypond for OpenOffice, it was quite a difficult problem for me to
solve but with a very easy solution.
1. Look at http://www.utf8-zeichentabelle.de/unicode-utf8-table.pl?names=-
&utf8=dec&text=2 for the two
