Isn't "failed in flight" and "failed in the air" the same thing?

Good Evening All,
I am an early KR-2 builder who purchased plans #1572 in 1976. I completed the
basic fuselage tub, as well as the horizontal stab, elevator, rudder, and both
front and rear outer wing spars. Then I inherited a T-18 project, worked on
that for a while until purchasing a PA-12
Mark,
Your aft CG story reminds me of the end of the Gee Bee company. When the 1933
R-1 was wrecked in a landing incident, and the Granville's assets were sold
off, a race pilot named Cecil Allen purchased the remains of the R-1 and
rebuilt it for the Bendix race. He added an aft fuel tank to

I still have a KR-2 project available. Standard original fuselage, on the
original retractable gear. Main spars installed, outer wing spars completed,
as well as horizontal tail, elevator, and rudder. Also a VW type one engine
mount and plywood for the firewall. FPL-16A used throughout.
An A&P at my airport bought a wrecked 140, mainly for the instrument panel. I
can check to see if he saved any "smalls" such as the door latch. Can you post
a photo of what you need? Or perhaps an image from the parts manual?

Hello to all,
KR-2 project for sale. I have too many projects, with not enough time or space
for all, so something has to go. This KR was started in the 1970's after which
I inherited a T-18 project, joined a PA-12 partnership, and purchased a '38

I'm not trying to second guess Myron or offer any comments/advice to him. I'm
sure he has his valid reasons for needing to sell his project. But just so I
know in case anyone asks me, doesn't a KR-2 qualify as Light Sport, and
therefore only requires a valid drivers license to legally fly? I
Sorry, I made a mistake in my For Sale post. Not that it really matters, but
the plans are S/N 1572.

Thanks Larry, I forgot about the stall speed part of the reg. I guess one
would have to redesign the wing to add flaps in order to overcome that hurdle.

Thanks for your comments Mike. I do seem to remember that there was info in the
newsletters on modifying the downlock to make it more secure. How you would
stiffen the crossbar after it is installed I would not be so sure about. Just
looking at the ground stance, it seems to me that the
Are original KR-2 plans still available? If so, at what price?

Is there some place that the KR-2 plans are archived?

Sorry, it's late here in the eastern time zone. Heading is wrong. I am
looking for KR2 plans. I actually at first said KR-1 in the message, but
realized it was wrong and changed it. Didn't notice that I had made the same
mistake in the Subject.

While going through information in a binder pertaining to the KR-2 I found a
letter from Herb Gillespie dated 12/6/1975 describing the Design Review he did
with a four page index of structural, material, dimensional, and safety
additions, corrections, and revisions to the KR-2 plans. Apparently
Still havn't heard anyone comment on Herb's Design Review..

Hey Colin,
Being a little harsh on us Colonials aren't you? We all said that JC should
not use dynel, but rather fiberglass cloth. We said that there are more modern
ways to do the foam and glass construction, and he should investigate those
ways. Also that carbon was more expensive and not

Second, I think we all agree that from the one photo you submitt
JC,
Someone wrote a more detailed and updated KR-2 plans book, I believe around the
early 1990's. I'm not sure if the same was done for the KR-1, but there should
contain lots of good info as far as the building materials. Hopefully someone
will chime in and provide more information on this f
