The Tiny Tach will work on a Slick Mag. One removes the mag harness cap, drills
a 1/8" hole in it, pass the red wire through and wrap it around the unshielded
portion of the harness, inside the cap. The new TT are fully programable and
will run on just about any engine, as they can be set to s

Most likely your tach is receiving a pulse from both systems. Some where

Hi Colin
I agree that chewed teeth could send the signal wonky but surely you would
replace that sort of damaged part before flight. In any case that is not
really the issue. A wonky signal to the tacho from a tooth counter will
never kill your ignition as it's completely independent of it. Usi
My plane has a dual ignition and my tach is hooked up only to the primary coil.

Mark:
Do not put a jumper between them as it will short the two ignitions
together. The safest way is to switch the tach wire when you switch the
ignition.
That requires a separate deck on the switch but is the safest and most
reliable.

Mark,
You should be able to do it using 2 diodes 1n4155 fast switching high
current anode side to the coil and both cathodes to the tack. This should
keep them from back feeding to the other coil.

This is a long shot but mine is that way also, and the other power and ground

Am looking to purchase an electric 2 1/4 tach for my corvair. Ive heard that
an electric tach could cause the points to fail if the tach fails. Is this so?
Is there a better alternative or since I will be running two points can I run
one for the tach and one as my backup? Ideas?Bill
Bill,
The tach on my Renegade has a 1000 ohm resistor between the ignition system and
the tachourmeter. If the tach were to go to a dead short, the ignition system
would never know it.
The tach on my KR is a capacitor pickup--the lead is wrapped for two turns
around one of the spark plug wire
nd my old n541ry.com domain is now mine again, so I
should have some new photos up by the end of the labor
day weekend.
