Let me clarify a couple of things. 560 hours was flight time over 13 years.
That equates to 113,880 hours that these tanks held fuel without leaking or
degrading. Why go any other way other than aluminum tanks. I would estimate
60% of those hours were 100LL, 35% of those hours were 93 octane non

No welding required !!!
That's right, Dana Overall built me a set of aluminum wing tanks for my
first KR N886MJ and absolutely no welding is required. And 560 hours not a
drop of fuel leaked out. I ran 100LL, mogas, ethanol laden fuel and used
additives like Marvel Mystery Oil. Oh, did I say not a
I followed Marks and Dana's lead on this and used their information to
retrofit my KR2 with Diehl wing skins, to have 21.6 gallons in the wings.
It is documented here:

If you have built wing tanks for your STOCK outboard wing with Diehl skins
and have any words of wisdom or pics, I can use both.
I want to get started on these as soon as possible. I hope to have this
done and the Vair engine installed by the next Gathering so I can fly high
and nonstop to I39.

We had this conversation last September. Allen G. Wiesner mentioned that

the irrigation pipe idea sounds like the spar tank in my AA1 Yankee. If you
want a copy of the baffle and tank layout , I will scan it and post it. The
system has some drawbacks involving no fuel in a stall spin, but you guys can
beat that with a bit of
improvement.

Dana Overall has finished with Mark Jones' wingtank. The details are at
http://www.krnet.org/wingtank/ . If I ever have to build another one, it'll
be done this way. Total weight is something like 5 pounds, and you can
check it for leaks before it's installed. It's riveted and sealed, so

I have a question about the gussette material. I'm building a KR-1 and the
spruce kit included quite a bit of 5/8 triangular wood. Some of the gussettes
in the plans are dimensioned at 2 inches. Is anyone using 5/8 for gussettes? I
really don't want to use this only to have to start over if it'

William's website gives the fuel consumption as 5.6 gal./hr. at 75% power
for the 164 cubic inch Corvair.
That is classified information.
