You can't go wrong with the Great Planes 2180 VW from Steve Bennett.
I have 210 hours on mine since new and still no problems to date that I can
attribute to the engine quality.
One thing to consider is that the KR2S needs 180- 200Lbs up front to balance
properly with the longer tail (

Steve Bennett at Great Plains ells the Nikasil cylinders as an option, they
do weight less. I have not had any experience with them in a VW though. I
would stay with the VW for sure and rule out the redrive engine. Look at the
Great Plains Rear drive engine as the rear main will handle the

I have just started planning a KR-2S build, and would appreciate your
input on choice of engine.
I have also searched KRNet archive, but have not found a good comparison
