Gunnar, Steve Bennett at Great Plains ells the Nikasil cylinders as an option, they do weight less. I have not had any experience with them in a VW though. I would stay with the VW for sure and rule out the redrive engine. Look at the Great Plains Rear drive engine as the rear main will handle the thrust loads and it is the lightest VW out there.
