If one were drill through the 5/8 square spruce and epoxy in that hole a steel
tube, would that make the piece weaker?
I plan to do a destructive test to find out, but your thoughts would be
appreciated.
If epoxy is stronger than the wood, and the steel is stronger than the wood,
would it not
I have thought that if I were to do this again on a plane that was not
already skinned, that I would make a space for the tube to pass through the
stringers, but would put a doubler at the place where I drilled the hole. In
that case, I would think that you could use any material you wish for a

You didn't say how big the hole was going to be or what part of the

I don't see how it could be much stronger being skinned on the outside
and inside

I would like to see the structural guys reaction on this one - I would
like to do exactly that in my 115% rendition of a KR. In fact, I would
like to take the inner skin from the firewall to the

That is very true. I think that skinning behind the rear spar will add much
weight where you don't want it.
I would like to see someone use a triangle of skin glued over the stringer
joints, instead of gussets an

If you use the pulleys, you will never have to be concerned about the wear.
I may have a couple extra around here somewhere that you can have.
