I use duct tape or packing tape. I use aeropoxy and it doesn't seem to
stick to either of those once cured. I don't have any experience with any
other epoxy so you may have to experiment some to see how it works for you

Personally I tend to look for the right tool for the job. Some may call it
lazy... I call it efficiency!
If you have not heard of a board sander I would highly recommend purchasing
one! They make sanding significantly faster and low effort from you!

Do you have a picture of area that you are trying to fill?
Based on your description I am imagining that you have a front hinged
canopy with a two arm bracket system where the pivot point is under the
front deck.

If you do use the WW gold hub for the corvair just note that it is a sae1
bolt pattern but it also requires a 2.25 inch hole drilled through the
center of the prop.
If you miss this step you will be quite disappointed when the prop doesn't
fit... Not that I am speaking from experience or anything.
