Apparently there are multiple things that can prevent an engine from starting... But not grounding the distributor is a big one... I had checked that the distributor was grounded statically but apparently without a direct wire to ground the distributor it will lose significant strength dynamically. Without that ground the engine will appear to have spark and will think about running but will never actually start! Thanks for all the suggestions at the gathering! It paid off and allowed it to work! Now to move on to the next step!
