I too have bicycle cable brakes on retractable gear. Workable, but never great. Putting on the expensive drums (research the KR newsletter) helped some, and replacing the bicycle brake cables with motorcycle cables would help a lot. Cable brakes are light, cheap, reliable, never need to be bled,

I put an inch of dunnage over the canopy, stretched poly over that, and fiberglassed over the polyvinyl contacting only the fuselage away from the canopy. When the glass cured, I removed the dunnage and glued in felt. This made a perfect water tight canopy cover that will never scratch the glass.
