years ago, I took to climbing 81 JM to 12,000 ft and shutting the engine off (being a frustrated glider pilot) and found a glide ratio of about 10 to 1 when the prop was vertical. Oddly, it was only 8 to 1 if the prop was horizontal. I made a fairly careful study and drew up a polar which was printed in the old KR Newsletter about 1990.
