I changed out the 3/4 inch spring bar and installed a 1 inch spring bar on my kr2 after hearing about the hard landings putting the wheels up through the top of the wings on some other KRs with retracts. My kr2 is actually a 1.5 bird since I made it a single seat version due to the gross weight

Leif,Pressure relief holes are not needed in your engine mount unless you plan on having it “normalized” after welding to relieve stresses.I wanted to do that after TIG welding but forgot to vent each tube beforehand. The temperatures used to normalize or stress relieve the mount would cause them

There is no need for pressure relief holes in the engine mount. You may want holes in the closed cells of the spars for pressure relief at altitude, but that should be the only place you might need them on a KR.   Det er ikke behov for trykkavlastningshull i motormonteringen. Du vil kanskje ha h

I just finished a KR 1 with retract, and am still building a KR 2, also with retract. Having read ML's opinions many times, I just decided to go original, 'cause that is what fired my interest when I was 17(now north of 60). Now to a question for those still having retracts, or have flown them:

Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone I agree that it seems like a lot of extra expense to convert from retractable ear to fixed gear, but I imagine for some folks the joy may be in just having another project/modification for them to tackle. That may make it worth the expense.Cert

I still like my retractable gear. Why are people going to the considerable effort to replace it with fixed gear? What is the performance before and after? Has anyone ever really tried to seal up the retractable wheel wells (I have to some extent) it should make a big performance improvement. ++
