I have a very similar canopy and if for any reason I had to re-build it, it
would be converted to a forward tilt, for many reasons. The turtle deck would
remain the same. My method is very similar to Larry's, after all, he did it
first, so I had something to go by.

Don't think the problem is headroom clearance but more visibility over the
nose

Lowering the seat is not likely to make it more visually stimulating.
Sitting less reclined or more upright is what I imagine you seek and that
does require head room. You can a bit more visual experience by the addition
of 2 side windows but this requires moving the head rest panel rearwards.
Hi Pat
I wasn't trying to scare anyone ,-I had a side opener with double latch and
never had a problem.
All I was saying was that as Ben has to modify his canopy to take a longer
pilot,he might as well go for the front hinged arrangement. Then ,all he
has to do is tilt the aft end up to suit his he
Ben,
Perhaps the easier solution could be to "lower the river instead of raising
the bridge".
To the point: How high is the seat bottom from the fuselage floor? You
might be able to get some room by lowering the seat.

When Ken Cottle built my plane he put a thin and bendable piece of
aluminum with a slot in it that slides down over a bolt head screwed into
the top longeron. Although I have often forgotten to put my seat belt on
or turn on the transponder or committed other oversights when taking off,

Sid is on to something. A friend has a KR2 with a dragon fly canopy, but
your head is crammed toward the center. The problem is the seat is to high.
It is great seat, just

have done the same for various reasons. ?Rollover protection is
Ben,
To raise the canopy height, you'll need to raise the aft deck for sure. You
can potentially keep the forward deck the same but will also need to modify
your current canopy frame. Could be a lot of work but certainly doable. The KR
Manual gave a pretty good description during building on
Hi Ben,
I you've got the original side hinge type of canopy,I would change it to
the forward hinge -follow the Guru and friend- who is in the process and
posts pictures-

Side hinged canopies are not a problem. We must not associate them with
"fatalities"/failures. Inadequate or improper latching or pilot/builder
negligence are the likely cause of failures. I do not deny that the forward
opening canopy is an improvement but not a reason to instill fear and or

G?day All ? As a first time user of this page and a new owner of a KR2
(purchased eight months ago) and having flown some five hours in my retractable
taildrager I am searching for information on the KR2 canopy.
