Basically, checkout 3.2.5 from git, branch it, apply your changes,

The .usm files I've seen are just .mrc binary files by another name.
Rename it to .mrc and it should import into Koha in the normal way.

should fix it I think.

I did some work on this back in 2.0 and it was possible (but a bit
fiddly) then, but things have moved on a lot since.
Of course, there are lots of us in the support directory offering Koha
hosting...

Check that the Koha server can send email from the command line
with a client like mailx.

about its name and primary IP address.
Alternatively, you can set the WEBSERVER_IP environment variable
which will bypass trying to use gethostbyname and risking that error.
Other stuff will probably break on a confused system, so it's best
to fix /etc/hosts and hostname if you can.
