RH 8.0 officially does not support mp3. ogg is
the prefered format. You can install freeamp with
mp3 pluggin to play mp3. Also mpg123 is available
on the RH CD to play mp3.
Only old kernels are supported for Mot's win
modem. Try your luck at http://www.linmodems.org/

It seems you haven't defined the name servers in
/etc/resolv.conf. Use the DNS server of ISP.You can
ask for same if you don't know.
