Hi!

It seems you haven't defined the name servers in
/etc/resolv.conf. Use the DNS server of ISP.You can
ask for same if you don't know. 

2> Then check by ping to yahoo or any web site it
should resolved the address. otherwise you can use
nslookup for same.

3> For IP : You have to recompile the kernel for same.
Otherwise some one can snatch your ip (in your
network) and you  won't know who did until and unless
you check with arp command.
