home user. I pay around Rs. 1500 per month for a 64k/16k link with a real ip

I had used DSL with this setup about two years ago. I had also had the
squid+cache configured.
It worked fine. Only prob was the thruput of the 128 KBPS DSL was
worse than a 64 KBPS ISDN. So I had to discontinue.
You can also try LRP or Freesco if you are short of hardware :)
