Hi Priit
I hope the import was successful. The hard part is now going thyrough and
checking and correcting the errors that have crept in. David Carlson's

Priit,
When I migrated over, I did it the same way as you describe here-- that is, I
imported the entire file in one pass. I went back to quicken numerous times to
clean up the exported data, but eventually got an import that was clean enough.
I offer that simply as a counter story to that of t
I, too, am using 3.5 on WIndows 10 with no apparent problems.

Hi Christopher.
Finally got round to completing my final quarter VAT return with the manual
error-prone process of typing 7 numbers into boxes on the HMRC website.
I'm now trying to make the Income & GST report give me sensible numbers that
match my existing saved transaction reports and strugg
Hi Maf
I agree your asset purchases are not going to be accounted for in the
current iteration. This was not thought of during the design.
A short workable answer is to record this asset purchase as an expense, and
immediately create an expense->asset transaction which will satisfy your

Hello All:
This is my second request; no response to my first one.
I cannot get Gnucash 3.5 to install on Windows 10. The dtaus.xml file is
suspended during the installation process and the whole installation hangs
up. Gnucash 3.5 has removed the earlier version, so I can't go back to
that. Right n

I believe that is "Credit Note"

I have a bank account that I share 50/50 with my spouse. We each pay in
a certain amount each month, we use the money to pay utilities and
things like that, occasionally to reimburse individual expenses.
When I calculate my net worth, I include half of the value of that account.
When I compute e
I think the wiki in the ‘using GnuCash’ section has just this very example of
sharing living expenses.
I would create either an asset or liability account called “reimbursements”. (I
have a sub account for each family member under this, but in your case, you’d
only need one) It doesn’t matter w
Hello All,
since the General GST/VAT report is discussed I just wanted to add that
in the German VAT forms normal purchases aren’t filled in, only the
deductible input VAT thereof.
For acconting of it for tax purposes an asset account is used for cash
based accounting.

Hello Maf King,
Thanks for getting back to me. Since I sent my post to the list, I actually
did find an earlier version and installed that with no problem. However, I
then ended up with more problems! The GnuCash software program seems to
work OK, but when I open my Gnucash data file, I have this
Hi David
Some basic points. Did you try downloading the program again and
reinstalling it? Can you try installing on another computer?
I have installed and am using Gnucash on Windows 10 without much hiccups.
If you have a good RAM on your machine, you can install a VM of a Linux
distro and try
Removing the .lck file in your data directory before trying to re-open might do
the trick. Normally choosing ‘open anyway’ will do this for you, but perhaps it
is getting stuck. Also, be sure you are not accidentally opening a backup file.

I think the Unable to Create Backup File usually means that gnucash
cannot write to the folder where the accounts file is stored. What is
the path to that folder? You are not running out of disk space are

I have a vendor (a VOIP service provider) that requires prepayments for
all services. So the way I have been doing this is to process a payment
to that vendor, which gives me a credit balance with them. Then, at the
end of the month, I post a bill from that service provider for the

Thanks David,
I am a retired Physicist - so likely even further from solving this ;-(
My use is similar, trying to update quotes weekly - for now forcedly connecting
to my neighbors network..
Gnucash is phantastic SW and well maintained and supported (THANKS to John and
others !!!), even if so
David,
If the payments is made before the bill is posted it is likely that the
payment has not become associated with the bill so that GNuCash can
recognize that it has been paid.
The section on unposting invoices(bills) in the following wiki page may
help. You can perhaps use the procedure desc
Good evening,
I use Quicken Wallet Style checks. Is there a way to include a line of
text between the amount and the signature line? I need is to place the

order more checks since the account will be closed in July.

Oops realised that recording the capital purchase as expense then

it would be classed as a 'refund'. I have no other workaround.
Just wondering what exactly are the parameters for your reports?

David,
The inability to create the backup file tends to suggest that you may have
permission issues to the location the datafile is stored in. The .LCK file
is not an issue of itself. You can open the folder and delete the .LCK file
manually. This is usually done automatically when you select open

David
The section headed "I entered a payment directly instead of using Process
Payment" in the wiki page I referenced will give you a method for
associating a payment to a bill.

Enter the payments between your cash/checking/card account and this pre-paid
expense account.
I forgot to mention, it is okay to use the Process Payment for pre-payments,
but you’ll still need to link that to the posted invoice to clear it. Simply
use Process Payment again after posting and select both the pre-payment and the
invoice. GnuCash will use up the portion it needs to cover the
Hi All,
I am not a programmer and have been using MS Money for years. While I love
the Gnucash features, I miss the MS Money colorful reports (and yes a
beautiful dashboard).
I came across a post (I think it was Reddit) that suggests that you can

Unless you’re up for learning SQL, there is an easier path if all you want are

You can copy/paste reports to a spreadsheet and manipulate from there.
You can get part of the way to a ‘dashboard’ with the multi-column report. Look
into it.
Otherwise, probably an intermediate ste
How would HRMC know if you cut and pasted the data or not? I haven't

how would they know that a submission isn't just a .csv or .xml file
that was copied and pasted manually from another program? I vaguely
