Does Org Mode have a way to identify that multiple events refer to the
same event? It would be wonderful, for those of us with messy org files
(multiple overlapping incoming data sources), if Org Mode had a way to
to relate multiple events in a way that sums the details between events.

instructions in the manual, I added

to my .emacs file. But if I try to do an export I get the following

several org-mode files for a project that is becoming too large. For
example, I keep a separate org-file for each paper or report, another
with notes, another with analysis (with R code blocks), etc.
