I guess this can be marked as "resolved", as the icon can no longer be
dragged to a panel.
In Lucid, 10.04 LTS, a Network icon made to be visible on the Desktop (via $
gconf-editor
apps -> nautilus -> desktop ) cannot be dragged to a panel. As described
above, other icons added the same way

I just installed Ubuntu Lucid x86_64 and the issue still persists for me.

desktop where VMWare Server Console is running is identical to the
resolution of the VM Guest,
For example, if my VMWare guest (XP Pro SP2, in this instance) is at

For me, this problem no longer persists. I ran the latest Gutsy updates
and also updated my VMWare server to VMWare Server v1.0.4 -- the two
were performed at about the same time so I don't know which of the two
is responsible for solving the tooltip problem I first reported.
