Open the current file manager in 11.10. Hit F3 to split the screen.
Make sure breadcrumbs are visible along the top of the window. In the
split pane that *doesn't* have focus, try to change the directory up one
level by clicking on the bread crumbs. It won't work.. you have

two ways to do it.. the long way (not really) check the post at the
beginning area of the thread. The short version.. Shift+Numlock. That
should fix it..

I am currently running Ubuntu 10.04 as a fresh install after a failed
upgrade... still retaining my old /home partition. The Ubuntu install
sits patiently waiting for me while my current production install is
Kubuntu 10.04. Nice to have a backup if needed. I think this bug can
be closed at this
This is my production machine so I don't think I can re-install 8.04 and
then do the upgrade again without the process being problematic. So as
for reproducing the issue I'd prefer not to try. I'm not sure what

Neil, If you have organized Evo with different email folders instead of
one huge inbox, you need to delete the files you mentioned in each of
those folders.. you've probably already tried this but I thought I'd
mention it just in case you happened to overlook it.

I am also a victim of this error. Since I did a fresh install of 8.10
but retained my old /home, I ended up deleting a ton of ev files as well
as the cmeta,index and index.data files. This allowed me to delete the
trash successfully. Hopefully this will be fixed in the near future.

Instead of deleting the folder I renamed it to "backup.menus" and
restarted.. no change.. the menu items remain the same.

Adding a new user does not exhibit any of the bad behavior. It indexed
the system in 45 sec. without much more than 15% cpu load.
So that begs the question.. how do I fix my primary user that does have
this problem?

First, I'm not sure that this bug is part of Alacarte but it's the closest
reference I can figure out.
I upgraded from Hardy to Intrepid by doing a fresh install but I retained my
original /home partition/drive from hardy. After the install I
wheezer.. a few posts above mention a couple of things you have to do.
Maybe you just didn't mention them all when listing what you had done.
If you didn't do them it might be worth doing them in order, and then
test and see if it returns. This was posted by Blempis.
