Unfortunately, due to a different bug in Natty relating to ecryptfs I
haven't yet been able to upgrade. The bug is definitely still present in
10.10 though.

I suspect this is due to a combination of proprietary Nvidia drivers and
Plymouth.
At the login screen, hitting the "enter" key causes the screen to reset.
If I've already entered my username and password this is cleared so it
has to be entered again

so technically it's a duplicate of this one ;)
I am concerned by the lack of official response to any of these bugs by
the Gnome team. Given that mounting shares is pretty much gvfs' sole
function you'd think they'd be looking

command just hangs about 75% of the time and gvfsd-smb starts using
100% CPU until killed. Once I kill the process
I just tried installing the debug symbols for gnome-system-monitor as
per the linked instructions. However, the instructions aren't fully
clear.
Although the installation went OK, running gnome-system-monitor-dbgsym
results in this:
dar...@ubuntu-desktop:~$ gnome-system-monitor-dbgsym
gnome-syste
This still happens but I think only when I have Virtualbox open (not
necessarily on the same workspace). I hope this helps in tracking the
problem down.

The only difference between what I and the others here are experiencing
is that I get a dialogue about the user still being logged in. I fail to
see how this could conclusively be a separate bug. I haven't tried to
use the killall commands that others here have posted because, frankly,

1. Create user.
2. Log out and log in with new user.
3. Log out of new user account and back into admin account.
4. Try to delete user via "Users and Groups". It warns that the user is still
logged in even though they do
