More information: The machine with SiS video on the motherboard has a
BIOS option to change the amount of video RAM. Setting this to 8Mb or
64Mb does not seem to change the behavior. So it does not seem to be
related to the amount of video RAM.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that worked on bringing Xorg into
Debian so seemlessly. I have now done several workstation installs with
Xorg, as well as several upgrades from XFree, and at this point I have yet to
come across any problems.
Many thanks for a job well done.

I installed the x-windows-system package in stable version a few days
ago and i found that
the module xtt is not included by default in the configuration
process, it must be selected by hand, if not selected the X server
wont start, telling it cannot find the fixed font.
Thnx

In italian keyboard layout to generate @ and some other chars you need to use
ALT GR + some other key.
Now on my Debian stable it is not working, i installae it few days
ago, th problem is present only in X server (XFree86 obviusly). My
XF86Config-4 file contains this:

My video chipset is ":01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: S3 Inc. VT8375

Running xine with the video switched to xshm does show the video. So it
seems the x.org video extension does not like my graphics chipset.

Hi!
Here's another fix for xserver-xorg. On GNU/kFreeBSD, it obtains the list of
mouse devices dynamicaly (makes no sense to offer as options the devices that
don't exist).

months, but xorg is now in unstable and it still defaults to 75dpi.
I don't want to raise a big discussion here about the pros and cons of dpi,
I just want to know whether there is something in planning to fix this
