Some extra info. to help whoever may be concerned:
I did the update from inside a screen of multi-gnome terminal while
running X. It worked without any strangeness. I started the upgrade
just before going to bed. This morning it was complete. I read my
mail. Saw the post to which I'm responding. R

When you go to
/etc/mysql/
and look in the file my.conf
on my system it contains:
# This will be passed to all mysql clients
[client]
#password = my_password
port= 3306
socket = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock
(no pass set, which is also the default by apt imo).

Hello List :
i known apache stress-tool "ab" can suffice for me, but "ab" seems can not generate
graphical reports to me
Therefore, i'm finding a tool that can "round-robin" / excessive load to benchmark my
apache web server
and generate detailed easy to read graphical reports.

Thanks oliver,
I only did "apt-get install mysql-server" after which I did "mysqladmin -u
root -p create moregroupware"
Nothing... Same error with our without the "-p"
If a root password has been set, it has been during downloading and
unpacking of the debian package. in other words: not by me..
Hi group,
I use the packages video-dvdrip and transcode from Christian Marillat.
When I rip a dvd, everything works fine, but when I try to transcode it,
nothings seems to work. Using two-pass encoding, the first pass works,
but the second does nothing. Using single-pass encoding no frames are

There are two ways to do this.
1. If you have two network interfaces on the host have bind9 running
against only any card - one for internal one for external.
2.Use views in bind9 and only run one version of bind9.
e.g.
view "internal" {
match-clients {10/8; };
};
view "external" {

Silent hard disk? Buy a Seagate barracuda with FDB. I've got an
ST340016A, which runs at less than 2.5 bels (read: inaudible) even when

well. These drives are incredible. Plus, they run cool, so if you have

Hi Guys
I have installed debian (via a Knoppix CD), and overwritten a previous Linux
distro. My /home folder exists from the previous distro and I have added
myself as a user. However I cannot seem to be able to access all my old data
on /home.
Has anyone experienced this, and if so, did you f
