I'm having trouble installing on a Dell Dimension XPS P120c. The problem is
that when I try to install the base system it can't mount my cd-rom

The .fetchmailrc file says 'set daemon 600' but the daemon keeps dying on

Interesting. I usually see more errors under Windows with overclocking

Sometimes I have to build PC's from spare, dusty, marooned 386-486
stuff.
Due to the fact that I don't know if the hardware still runs well, is it a
good idea to run a floppy kernel ten times consecutively, for example, to
take an initial (or decent) idea of the health of the hardware?
On http://debian.schlittermann.de/, I read that "there is
no easy upgrade path from slink to potato".
Is this still true?
We need to install Oracle 8.0.5 on Potato but compiler reports
some errors due to incompatibility glibc2.0 with glibc2.1 at
the source level. On Slink everything was ok.
My chief said, that there is a package for RedHat, solving
that kind of trouble. (compat-glibc 5.2-2.0.7.2)
Is there Debian pa

Hi all
Is it possible to restrict FTP to passive mode in Netscape? It's ruins
the nice firewall setup. :(
Has anyone got a nice solution for this?
TIA
Sven (please CC me)
AFAIK, the root filesystem is mounted read-write and remounted read-only
on errors...

hi ya wilson
if you need full functions of NFS/NIS in your aoutmounter
you have ot use amd
if you want something/simple/fast for things like
automounting /home or /var/spool/mail than autofs is better/faster
and autofs is part of the kernel

Thanks. I'll have a look at it.
From what I have learned from HOWTO's etc., it appears that it is possible

Just a quick question:
When performing NFS/NIS-like automount functions, which utility is
better - amd or autofs? In what sense?
Thanks.
Hi all
If I run rsync and there is a a new folder / file on the sending side,
rsync tries to remove that very folder on the receiving side for some
weird reason. This makes no sense to me. If I don't use --delete, this
doesn't occur, but instead files that don't exist on the sending side
anymore,
