Well, after reviewing the replies I've received and having another look through
www.x11.org's comparison chart, it look like the best candidate for most
features, ease of configuration via GUI tools and good displays on my daughters

The X man page has the info.

127.0.0.1 is the localhost ( your machine ). Unless
your machine is acting as the name server names will not be secolved.
You will have to get the name server from the network administrator.

I'm trying to gracefully recover from an error I made in my first debian
installation several months ago: While attempting to make /root fairly small, I
created hda3 as 100M, wasting most of a 4G disk. I have just realized what I
did and now I would like to bring this system up to something more

Sorry for bothering:
When I upgraded pcmcia-cs package to 3.0.14, I found my pcmcia network
card does not work. It seems the problem is not easy for me to solve
because the error messages are complains about "NULL pointers" in the
kernel and lots of CPU register error messages are dumped. Since ne

I have just installed a Mustek 1200ED scanner on my system. I am running
a stable slink production system. I have installed sane from Debian and
seem to have the scanimage and xscanimage saned etc working. I read all
the docs and have not been able to get it going. This scanner is
attached via a PC

Dear Sir,
I should like to install the X-Windows system under my Debian-Linux
1.3.1. distribution, but I have some problem with using the mouse.
It seems so easy to install the mouse, but this is the case. I have a
two-button Microsoft mouse connected to the PS/2 port and it doesn't
