Severe problems with recent kernels booting mac mini G4

Hello, I cannot boot my mac mini G4 with a linux kernel more recent than linux-image-2.6.17-2-powerpc. If I try a newer one, it stops with PMU not responding (!ack). The bug is already entered into the BTS but nobody from the kernel team recognizes it. So I'm stuck. Even trying with vanilla kerne
