I have occassionally had to as maconlinux deblessed.
(by the way did you try starting mac os with that ?)
you have a macos boot cd, you need that .(even the
incomplete 9.2 upgrade cd that came w/ 10.1) boot
from that.

I cannot boot my mac mini G4 with a linux kernel more recent than
linux-image-2.6.17-2-powerpc. If I try a newer one, it stops with PMU
not responding (!ack).
The bug is already entered into the BTS but nobody from the kernel team
