Well, after spelunking through the archives some more, I found out that
I had a minor problem in yaboot.conf; basicaly, instead of having a
line saying "video=aty128fb...", I needed one that said
append= "video=aty128fb:vmode:10:depth:16"

I am asking because I work with the Lombard, I do have a great
deal of work to do before Christmas and updating would screw up
all of it. I would not like to waste time reinstalling the system.
In any case, I will not update until the work is over, so to minimize
