Hi,
I just bought a new Dell Laptop. It's an Inspiron 500m with the
Pentium M, integrated Intel graphics and an 1400x1050 display.
I installed Linux and access on the command line works fine. Now I
wanted to configure X but ran into loads of trouble. I downloaded the
latest Intel drivers, compile
an update. I haven't
had any success whatsoever yet, though, but I'll let you know as soon
as I get new information. They just keep insisting they don't support
Linux and stuff. I hope I can put some pressure on them, though.
Best regards,
Magnus

to put some high pressure on Dell in this matter because there's no
way their current behaviour is acceptable.
Anyway, first get your exams done. Good luck.

S update will ever be available at all. No promises to solve my
problem, though. "We don't support Linux, blabla."
So, bottom line: Please give your country's Dell support a try. I
couldn't get through, maybe you can. Please, I mean this is of
importance to all of us.
much RAM as you told
that tool to allocate.
Tell me what your results are. Mine seems to work fine for now. (I've
just gotten it to work, though.)
All right, I need to get some sleep now.

ys so that not even the official Windows
drivers work anymore (only the drivers from Dell still work).
So don't buy a Dell. If you're a Linux user, they don't care about
your nees as a customer. Your simply 'not supported'.

UX This is only one idea, how you can try to
resolve your problem.
Unfortunately there is nothing more, we can advice you, so please do
not contact DELL hotline in this issue.
I mean, what can be more clear than 'do not contact DELL hotline in
this issue"?

You're right, this was due to cpufreqd changing it back. If I disable
that, it stays at the 600Mhz-600Mhz range. But still, /proc/cpuinfo
always gives
cpu MHz : 1294.774
So, it's not working, is it?

a 2.4 kernel, not with 2.6.
When I boot to 2.6.0-test11, I can't insert the i830 module and then X
complains that it can't open /dev/agpgart (the agpgart kernel module
gets loaded, however).
