Compiled kernel version 2.4.22 with CONFIG_SOUND_ICH compiled as a
module, and it seems to be working fine.
A kernel recompile also seems to have ACPI loading as well. I still need
to test that, though.
Thanks to James who recommended this solution.

Yes, already have both of these compiled in the kernel.

I am using the b44 (experimental) driver in kernel 2.4.22 , I think I'll
try the bcm4400 and see if it helps.

Hi
I am trying to get sound to work on a dell inspiron 5100.
Windows reports the soundcard as a sigmatel c major audio card.
The distro I am using is debian.
I looked for a linux driver for this soundcard but was not successful.
Any ideas on how to go about this would be a great help.

the sound is working.
the steps i took are the following:
. use 2.4.18 kernel with sound enabled, but no compiled-in cards.
. install _not_ debian-'sarge'-provided alsa packages, but the latest
stable versions from www.alsa-project.org (i.e. version 0.9.2),
including 'alsa-drivers', 'alsa-li
